Steve Simpson

On February 6, 2013, I met with Mr. Steve Simpson, an alumnus of the University and a current assistant director of the band to discuss his thoughts and memories of being in the Million Dollar Band, Butler Field, and Alabama game days. Simpson attended the University from 1974 to 1978, majored in music education, and played saxophone in the band. After he graduated, Simpson said he worked as a middle and high school band director until 1996. “In ’96, Ms. Scott was out for about a month or so with some hospitalization right at the beginning of band camp, and [the band] was a little shorthanded and asked me to come and help out. And I did that, and I just never left,” he said.
